Letter to Parents
Dear Parents,
We are in the middle of the digital age and find ourselves challenged with teaching and educating our children differently and in a variety of ways about the Christian lifestyle. As 21st century Christian parents, your responsibility is that of:
- Teaching the next generation (your children) about the Christian tradition if Christianity is to be a viable and surviving way of life for your family in the future
- Finding and/or using resources that teach your values and morals
With the soon to be new Video-of-the-Week feature for children under the ABOUT US/WHO WE ARE tab of the Genesis Foundation website, you will have the opportunity to teach your children about Christianity and what you believe in terms of religion and your personal values. Scripture references for the new video feature are
- Psalm 127:1--Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain (NRSV)
- Proverbs 22:6--Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray (NRSV)
Other scripture references you may want to read on your own is Deuteronomy 6:1-9, Psalm 127:3, Psalm 139:13-18, Jeremiah 1:5, Matthew 19:14, and Ephesians 6:1.
The new Resources for Parents section For the Genesis Foundation of Hope and Restoration under the NEWS AND EVENTS tab will provide resources, book titles, videos, etc. that have practical advice that you will be able to use immediately with your family.
There is also a link to statistics on childhood poverty (by states) under the COMMUNITY RESOURCES tab in the link for the Children’s Defense Fund. There is a myriad of organizations in the area and nationally that are helping in the fight against childhood poverty and families-in-poverty generally.
